Why Love Land Sticks to a Hybrid Model:Empowering Every Generation

At Taboobreaker, we believe that Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) should be more than just information — it should be an invitation.
An invitation to learn, to reflect, and to connect across generations.
That’s why Love Land, our flagship program, has been designed not as a one-size-fits-all solution, but as a hybrid model – a vibrant combination of a gamified mobile app and an interactive board game.

We are often asked why we insist on maintaining both formats.
Why not just focus on the app, which is sleek, scalable, and instantly accessible to young people?
Or why invest in a board game, when digital solutions are dominating the education landscape?

The answer is simple: True change happens when we meet people where they are.

The App: Private, Playful and Youth-Led

Our Love Land app empowers young people to explore essential topics – sexual health, mental wellbeing, consent, gender equality – in a way that is private, engaging, and on their own terms. With storytelling, mini-games, and interactive challenges, the app respects young people’s independence and curiosity.

In a world where shame and silence too often cloud CSE topics, the app creates a judgement-free zone – a place where young users can learn, reflect, and build skills at their own pace.

The Board Game: Building Bridges, Empowering Adults

But change doesn’t only start with young people. Adults matter, too. Teachers, parents, caregivers, youth workers — they are the “gatekeepers” to creating safe spaces for learning.

That’s why we insist on keeping the Love Land board game alive and thriving. The board game format invites adults to step into CSE conversations in a hands-on, non-threatening, and playful way.

It’s a powerful tool for:

  • Breaking taboos and fears around sexuality education
  • Training facilitators and educators who may have never had access to CSE themselves
  • Creating real-world community learning moments in schools, youth centres, and families

Through the board game, adults are not just “giving permission” to talk about difficult topics — they are modelling openness and
courage
themselves.

Hybrid = Inclusivity, Accessibility, Empowermen

By combining both the board game and the app, Love Land:

  • Reaches young people directly AND equips adults to be allies
  • Works in both low-tech and high-tech environments
  • Respects different learning styles: tactile, visual, reflective, interactive
  • Strengthens community dialogues while honouring private self- learning

As Karin Stierlin, founder of Taboobreaker and the visionary behind Love Land, puts it:

We don’t just want young people to have information. We want them to have adults who are ready to listen, support, and learn alongside them.”

This hybrid model isn’t just a technical decision. It’s a philosophical commitment: that meaningful sexuality education must reach hearts as well as minds, across generations, backgrounds, and contexts.

Encouraging Funders and Partners: Invest in Both Channels of Change

As we continue to grow Love Land across South Africa, Switzerland, and beyond, we warmly invite funders, partners, and education leaders to embrace the power of both formats.

Investing in the app means empowering youth independence. Investing in the board game means empowering adults to be brave guides.

Together, they create a ripple effect of confidence, communication, and consent that travels from families to classrooms to communities – and into the future.

Because true change doesn’t happen with a download button alone. It happens when knowledge meets dialogue, when play meets trust, and when every generation has a seat at the table.

Love Land: A Game. A Journey. A Movement.

Thank you for believing in a world where sexuality education is not a taboo, but a right and an empowerment of human dignity.
