How We Made Tutorial Magic with a Tiny Budget (and a Big Dose of Improvisation)

Let’s be honest; not everything goes according to plan.
When we set out to produce a polished, professional video series for our Train-the-Trainer program, we didn’t expect funding delays to change our timeline. But instead of waiting, we did what many educators, activists, and dreamers know all too well:
We improvised.
We simplified.
We stayed lean.
And we made it happen anyway.
With no funds for fancy gear or external production teams
We rolled up our sleeves and created a lean version of the Love Land Train-the-Trainer program — a series of three short, illustrated tutorial videos to guide facilitators through the updated board game.
Written, voiced, illustrated, and edited entirely in-house (yes, by Karin herself), these videos reflect the spirit of the Love Land approach: creative, resourceful, human.

Why lean is sometimes better
During early testing, we noticed that long-format training materials weren’t cutting it. Facilitators found them overwhelming, especially when it came to sensitive or stigmatized topics.
So we pivoted:
Instead of one long video, we created bite-sized tutorials; quick, visual, and practical. They’re made for busy teachers, youth workers, and anyone stepping into the role of game leader, especially those who may feel unsure about sexual health education or gamified learning.
These videos do more than explain how to play. They empower. They offer encouragement, realism, and flexible tips, even how to explain words like vagina without expensive anatomical models. (Hint: hands and sketches work wonders.)
